In Monterrey
First day into Mex. Past the border easily this time. We would have only made it about 10 mins into Mexico last time before the Federalies realized we didn't have the correct sticker to import the vehicle. I believe that was the check point where they would have turned us around and sent us packin back into the States. This time we had no troubles at all. Made it from Houston to Monterrey today.
Monterrey was very good choice! We are in a hampton suites hotel for only like 70 bucks for the night. Not bad, 4th floor, very clean, very safe! It's amazing how much different I feel driving into Mexico this time. Granted... we are taking a different route... which is mostly toll roads and supposed to be much better driving conditions. But, regardless... having spent a year in Mexico now my surroundings feel very familiar and safe. I feel completely comfortable. It's a weird feeling because not long ago this would have had me a little on edge. Not because there is anything to worry about but more because it was unknown to me.
This latest trip I've finally started to realize that I actually know Spanish!! Whoohoo!! We took the bus from Playa to the Airport, then we had to walk over to the other terminal and I was so proud of myself because the whole process through I was speaking Spanish to find out what we should do next! It`s still limited Spanish and probably only makes partial sense because I only know the present tense. I actually think it`s kinda fun! I`m talking to the local Mexican more just asking random questions or giving them compliments on their hair or whatever.... It`s good, I`m happy I`m getting somewhere with it! It`s all starting to fit together and make some sense! So, that is obviously going to help us through this trip.
Anyway, so far so good. Roads were fantastic all the way here! Toll roads mostly up to Veracruz. I will figure out our route tonight and let Connie know.
Alright, hitting the hay now so we can get up early! Night nite!
